99 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca GRANT, Ronald M. UN PEACEKEEPING Ronald was born in Preeceville, Saskatchewan in 1937. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Canada, Germany, Italy, Yemen, USA, Bermuda and Portugal as a UN Peace Keeper. He’s been a member of the Fort Garry Branch #90 of The Royal Canadian Legion for sixteen years. GREENLAY, Wilhelmina E. WWII Wilhelmina (Willie) was born in Napinka, Manitoba on October 20, 1925. She joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps on October 27, 1943 and took her basic training in Vermillion, Alberta. She spent all her military career in Vancouver, British Columbia, working as a radar plotter and switchboard operator. Willie was discharged on August 20, 1946 and returned to her hometown of Napinka where she married another war veteran, Jim Holden, with whom she raised seven children. Willie is retired and living in Melita, Manitoba and has been a member of the Napinka Branch #89 of Royal Canadian Legion for thirty-five years. GUSTAFSON, Thomas G. WWII & PEACETIME Thomas was born in Neepawa, Manitoba in 1926 and for twenty years, served in the Navy in Canada and on the High Seas. His service units were HMCS Chippawa, Griffon, Naden, Cornwallis, Point Edward, St. Catharines, Penetang and Levis II. He was an officer in charge of 18 selected Sea Cadets from across Canada for exchange visits to USS Aircraft Carrier Lexington II, on training exercises in the Caribbean, and OIC training for combined tri-service Cadet Camp at HMCS, Naden, BC. He was also the Commanding Officer of the Sea Cadet Corps “Vindictive” for five years in Thunder Bay, ON. Tom has been a member of the Transcona Branch #7 of The Royal Canadian Legion for twenty-eight years. GRIER, Roy E. WWII Roy was born in Woodmore, Manitoba in 1924. He joined the Air Force as a teenager in 1941 and served as a Leading Aircraftsman, employed in aviation mechanics with 411 Squadron during WWII in England, Italy and Egypt. In 1945, Roy met and married Edna Gill of London, England, who was a Corporal in the Air Force, Signals Division. He returned to Canada in 1945 and Edna joined him a year later when they settled on farmland in Woodmore. Roy passed away in 1998.
