He enlisted on March 15, 1916, with the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force. No other information is available. CRANSTON, Chester A. WWI Chester was born in Mountain Side in 1897. He joined the Canadian Infantry 44th Battalion, serving in Canada and France. He was killed in action in 1918. CREASER, Stanley WWII Stanley was born in Minnedosa, Manitoba, in 1925. He joined the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, serving in England, France, Belgium and Holland. He was put on draft for overseas in June 1943 on a train to Halifax, and then on the Empress of Scotland to Liverpool and posted at Strood Park near Horsham on July 8, 1943. Stanley was then loaded on a troop ship on June 3 and landed on Juno Beach on June 6, 1944, and remained unscathed until July 4, when he was wounded in the battle for Carpiquet Air Field with shell fragments in the right leg. He was returned to a hospital in England. He then returned to France with his unit on August 25 at Elbuff on the Seine and remained there until they reached Leopold Canal and was wounded again, struck by two rifle bullets while on a rear guard action on October 8. He was captured by the enemy, blacked out and woke up in a hospital in Eeklo, Belgium. Stanley returned home in February 1946 on the liner Queen Elizabeth. He has been a member of Brandon Branch #3 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 52 years. CRAWFORD, Kenneth WWII Kenneth was born in Dauphin, Manitoba, in 1924. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force #432 Squadron serving in England. Kenny died on January 3, 1944, at the age of 19 and is commemorated at the Berlin 192045 War Cemetery in Brandenburg, Germany. He was the son of William and Winnifred Crawford and brother of Gordon Crawford and sister Florence Arndt of Roblin, Manitoba. When the military recruiters came to the high school, Kenny was one of the first to sign up even though he was only 17 years old. He had a vibrant and outgoing personality, always seeking adventure and quickly rose through the military ranks. His brother, Gordon, was also killed several months later and their pictures remained on their Grandmother’s bureau until her death. She was very proud of their medals and showed them to every visitor to her house.
