He joined the Unit 1 CASC Reinforcement Unit Ca 60, serving in England and France. He passed away in May 1973, and was a member of the Morris Branch #111 of The Royal Canadian Legion. COCHRANE, Brian D. PEACETIME Brian was born in Boissevain, Manitoba, in 1949. He took his basic training at the Royal Military College in Quebec and then trained as a medical assistant at Borden, Ontario, before being dispatched to Rivers, Manitoba. COE, Wilfred J. PEACETIME Wilfred was born in Cobourg, Ontario, in 1930. He enlisted in November 1947 with the Army 1 RCHA 1st Light Battery (PARA) RCA, 2nd RCHA “Z” Battery 2 RCHA, and took his training at Camp Shilo, MB, Fort Churchill, MB, Wainwright, AB, Saskatoon, SK, Yellowknife, NWT, Gagetown, NB, and Petawawa, ON. He was awarded the CD and Canadian (Para) Badge and was released in October 1962. He farmed for thirty years and then became a wheelwright as a hobby. Wilfred served on various committees including being the Mayor of Hartney for four years. Wilfred is a Life Member of Hartney Branch #26 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 46 years. COCHRANE, Ralph B. WWII Ralph was born in Harriston, Ontario, in 1906. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in Winnipeg on May 1941 and sailed from Halifax to the UK in August that year, where he furthered his training as a wireless mechanic and served on several stations in England. He arrived in North Africa in May 1943, and in August, he was diagnosed with Malaria Fever, severe pain with one arm and both legs in casts. He returned to the UK on November 11, 1943, for further hospitalization. He repatriated to Canada, arriving in Montreal in March 1944, and spent his remaining war years serving in Winnipeg and Rivers, Manitoba. Ralph received his discharge in July 1945. Birtle remained Ralph’s home until his death in 1998. He had been a member of the Birtle Branch #55 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 45 years.
