He took his basic training at St. Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, and training as an electrical distribution technician in Gagetown, New Brunswick. CLARKE, Joel J. AFGHANISTAN Joel was born in Dauphin, Manitoba, in 1986. He joined the 435 Squadron at 17 Wing CFB Winnipeg as an aviation technician and is now currently serving at KAF (Khandahar Airfield) with the rank of Corporal. CLEMENT, Maxwell F. WWII Maxwell was born in North Branch, Ontario, in 1926. He joined the Royal Canadian Artillery Gunner and served in Canada. He has been a member of Atikokan Branch #145 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 58 years. CLEARWATER, Roland J. WWII Roland was born in Steep Rock, Manitoba, in 1823. He joined the Princess Louise Dragoons Guards serving in Canada, England and Italy. On September 25, 1944, his company was attacked across River USO, Italy, by machine gun fire and many casualties were inflicted on assaulting troops. Roland successfully led his section across the river and located one of the machine gun posts. He reported the location to his platoon, and while doing so, he was painfully wounded in his hip but continued and located his platoon commander. Roland remained there until a tank was brought up and he personally accompanied it and directed its fire on enemy machine guns until it was destroyed inflicting many casualties on the enemy. Roland had been a member of Altona Branch #235 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 40 years before he passed away in 1985.
