79 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca CHEVREFILS, Chad G. PEACETIME & AFGHANISTAN Chad was born in Pine Falls, MB, on October 16, 1979. He enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces in Winnipeg in March 2001, and completed his basic training at St. Jean, Quebec, and Battle School in Wainwright, Alberta, in 20012002 and was posted to the 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and went on a peacekeeping tour to Bosnia in the summer of 2003 for six months. His first tour to Afghanistan in 2006-2007 was as a LAV Driver (Light Armoured Vehicle). Chad went on to win the Medal of Military Valour for actions taken against Taliban forces on August 19, 2006. His second tour in Afghanistan took place in 2008. His military awards are the Afghanistan Campaign Star, Non Article 5 (Bosnia), and the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal. Chad remains in the service of our country. CHEVREFILS, Donat H. SPECIAL AREA DUTY Donat was born in Pine Falls, Manitoba, on March 23, 1932. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1954 and was later stationed in Wainwright, Alberta, with the Lord Strathcona Horse. In January 1957, Donat volunteered to serve with the 1956 Canadian Peace Squadron, part of the United Nations Emergency Force in Egypt. On November 29, 1957, his jeep struck a landmine and was completely destroyed. The driver was killed, a second soldier escaped unharmed, and Donat received a severe spinal injury which left him a paraplegic for the remainder of his life. He remained some time in hospital in Tel Aviv, Israel, before being repatriated to the Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg, and returned home to St. Georges, Manitoba, in 1958. Donat passed away on October 14, 1981. CLARK, Edwin J. WWII Edwin was born in Boissevain, Manitoba, in 1925. He joined the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery and served in Italy, Britain, Holland, Sicily and Canada. He was a member of Boissevain Branch #10 of The Royal Canadian Legion. Edwin passed away in 1999. CLARK, Brian J. SPECIAL AREA DUTY Brian was born in Boissevain, Manitoba, in 1949. He joined the Royal Canadian Engineers and served in Canada. Brian received the Fine Services Exemplary Service Medal in 1997 and has been a member of the Boissevain Branch #10 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 40 years.
