73 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca CARMICHAEL, Harvey WWII Harvey was born in Princeton, BC, in 1922. He served overseas and in Canada as a Navigator Instructor #7 ADS with the 436 Squadron Royal Canadian Air Force in Portage La Prairie (1941-1946). He received the 1939-1945 Star, the Pacific Star, the War Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Harvey has been a member of Carman Branch #18 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 10 years. CASKEY, Irvine N. WWII Irvine was born on May 1, 1920. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force Squadron 620 Stirling EFF 268 and served in Europe. He was killed in action on June 6, 1944, over Caen, France, and is buried at La Delivrance War Cemetery Douvres Calvados, France. CASSELLS, Hazen C. WWII Hazen was born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba, on May 12, 1920. He enlisted with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in January 1941, serving in Italy and North Western Europe. While in Italy, he was in the action that saw his brother, James, killed and later his brother, Robert, captured. He was discharged in 1945 with the rank of RSM and MID. Hazen returned to his hometown of Shoal Lake to farm and also became the local constable for many years. He married Avis Hunter of Strathclair and raised two children, Jerry and Corinne. He was very communityminded, serving on town council and instructing air cadets. Hazen passed away on March 1, 1994, and had been a member of the Shoal Lake Branch #72 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 44 years. CASS, Raymond W. WWII Raymond was born in Morden, Manitoba, in 1919. He joined the RWR in 1940, the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 and 1948, serving in Canada, the UK, the Middle East and Northwest Europe. Raymond passed away in 1999 and was a member of the Fort Garry Branch #90 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 34 years.
