WWII John was born in 1920 in The Pas, Manitoba, and enlisted in the Air Force in 1941 taking his pilot training in Regina, SK, and Lethbridge, Alberta. He went overseas in 1941 and was based in England with the British Squadron #405. He was a pilot of a Halifax aircraft and his crew was made up of three British and five Canadians. They flew 25 successful operations, most were bombing raids over Dusseldorf, Essen, and Saarbruecken and other German cities. John was shot down over Germany on October 1, 1942, and it is believed that he was flying with another crew whose pilot had been killed. John is buried in the Kiel War Cemetery in Germany. His parents, Jack and Elsie, never did visit his grave. He was a member of The Pas Branch #19 of The Royal Canadian Legion . CANADA, Andrew L. WWI Andrew was born in Carman, Manitoba, in 1898 and joined the 108th Overseas Battalion in 1916, serving in Canada, England and France. He was wounded in the shoulder and out of action until the end of the war. He passed away in 1937. CAREY, Robert J. WWII Robert was born in Boissevain, Manitoba, in 1920. He joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and served in Europe, Canada and Great Britain as a truck driver. He passed away in 1989. Robert received the 1939-1945 Star France/Germany, the Star Defence Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was a member of the Boissevain Branch #10 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 44 years. CANADA, William R. WWII William was born in Sandy Lake, Manitoba, in 1926. He joined the PPCLI serving in Canada. He returned to the Turtle Mountain after his discharge and lived with his mother, brothers and sisters. Bill worked for many constructions. He met his wife, Esther, and had a family of two girls and one boy. In 2006, Bill and Esther sold their home of 45 years due to Bill’s failing health and moved the Boissevain, Manitoba. He passed away on November 20, 2007, and is buried in the Boissevain Cemetery. He was a member of Boissevain Branch #10 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 5 years.
