65 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca BULLOCH, Earl K. WWII Earl was born in Reston, Manitoba, in May 1916. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in the summer of 1942 and took his initial training at several British Commonwealth Air Training Schools in Canada. He graduated in 1943 as an Air Bomber, and in September of that year he was shipped overseas to England and was transferred to the Royal Australian Air Force, Squadron 467. While flying on his first mission over enemy territory in September 1944, their Lancaster Bomber was shot down and Earl and all his fellow Australian crew members were killed. At the time of his death, Earl had attained the rank of Flight Sergeant. He is buried in the Durnbach War Cemetery, Bad Tolz, Bayern, Germany. BURDETT, Arthur WWII Arthur was born in Foxwarren, Manitoba, in 1921. He joined the 1st Hussars, 17th Duke of York in 1943 going overseas and seeing action in Germany and spent one year in the occupation force. Coming back home from overseas, he purchased a farm west of Foxwarren and went in grain and cattle farming. In 1951, he married Kay Kominko. Arthur took a welding course and went to Edmonton to work on the oil rigs and pipeline to get more experience and came back home to farm and set up a welding shop. Kay and Arthur built two new homes on the farm and raised three children, and still reside there after 58 years. Arthur received the France/Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He has been a member of the Foxwarren Branch #152 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 64 years. BURTON, Charles L. WWI Charles was born in Elder Mills, Ontario, on July 27, 1897. He joined the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Forces and served in Canada, Europe and Great Britain. He was a member of Boissevain Branch #10 of The Royal Canadian Legion. Charles passed away in 1982. BURR (nee RUPP), Eileen K. WWII Eileen was born in McNutt, SK, in 1926. She enlisted in 1944 at the age of 18 with the Canadian Women’s Army Corp serving in Canada until the end of the war. Eileen has resided in Snow Lake for a number of years and has been a very active member of Snow Lake Legion Branch #241 for 50 years.
