63 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca BRUNT, Herbert John WWI Herbert joined the 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles, Saskatchewan Regiment and was killed in action on August 21, 1917, at the age of 33. He is commemorated at the Vimy Memorial. BUCK, William B. WWI William was born in Boissevain, Manitoba, on December 27, 1896. He joined the Canadian Expeditionary Forces on March 14, 1918, for basic training in Canada. The war ended before being sent overseas. He was a member of Boissevain Branch #10 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 20 years. William passed away in 1971. BULLIED, James W. WWII James was born in Treherne, Manitoba, in 1926 to Merrill and Ellen Bullied. After his tour of duty in the Army he returned home, and in 1947, he married Iris Morrow of Oakville, Manitoba, and raised two children and eventually moved to Calgary, Alberta. Jim passed away in 1976 in Kelowna, BC. BUDD, Kenneth A. WWII Ken was born in 1919 and raised on a farm near Landseer, Manitoba. He joined the Air Force in 1942 and served as an aero engine mechanic. He was stationed mainly at bases in Ontario and the Maritime provinces. Ken attained the rank of Leading Air Craftsman Canadian Volunteer Service Medal before being discharged from Winnipeg Release Centre in 1945. He returned home and bought a farm in the Carroll area and settled there in 1949. He married in 1951 and had two sons and one daughter. At various times, Ken served on the local school board, municipal council, and drove a school bus. However, his main occupation was farming. Ken passed away in 2002, and is buried in the Carroll Cemetery near his home. He had been a member of Souris Branch #60 of The Royal Canadian Legion for over 50 years.
