He joined the 43rd Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders, serving in Vimy, France and was killed in action in 1918. BOOTE, Leonard WWI Leonard joined the 43rd Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders and served in France. He was killed in action in 1918. BOULTON, Gordon R. WWII Gordon was born in Morden, Manitoba, in 1919. He joined the Canadian Army where he was involved with recruitment duties across Canada. After an honourable discharge in December 1941, he went to Vancouver, where he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force-R143425 as AC2 and trained for the Commonwealth Air Crew Training program where he got his Wireless Air Gunner Wings as well as becoming a Flight Sergeant on December 24, 1942. He met his wife-to-be while training in Calgary in 1942, and became engaged on December 12 of that same year. In England, he became active with the 407th Squadron and moved to several places throughout England flying the Wellington Bombers and patrolling the North Sea and the Bay of Biscay. Gordon was decommissioned with honourable discharge on September 26, 1945. He was awarded medals and badges such as W.A.G. Operations Badge, the 1939-1945 Star, the Atlantic Star, the Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Maple Leaf Bar, the King George War Medal 1939-1945. Gordon passed away in 1999 and was a Life Member of the Miami Branch #88 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BOSMA, Donald J. WWII Donald was born in Leewwarden, Holland, on July 17, 1917. He enlisted in in the Royal Canadian Navy as an ordinary seaman in 1939 and took his basic training in Winnipeg and Esquimalt with his first posting on the corvette Quesnel to the Aleutian Islands. His training in submarine detection led him to serve on the frigate Lauzon with the Newfoundland Escort Force taking troops and supplies through the North Atlantic to the UK. He was discharged in Victoria, BC, in 1945 and was awarded the 1939 Enlistment Star, the Atlantic Star, the Pacific Star and the King’s Medal for volunteer service 193945. Don moved to Pine Falls, MB, where he married Betsy Ross and raised their children. He retired in 1979 and since 2007 live in MacKenzie, BC, with their daughter, Vida, and son-in-law, Mark Robillard. Visiting their sons, Ross and Mark, and grandchildren is their greatest joy. Donald has been a member of MacKenzie Branch #273 of The Royal Canadian Legion for three years and Pine Falls Branch #64 for 61 years.
