PEACETIME George was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1927 and served with HMCS Charlottetown-Uganda-Rockcliffe and Sault Ste. Marie in Canada and the Pacific. He has been a member of the Fort Garry Branch #90 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 54 years. BEELAERT, Albert WWII Albert was born in Angusville, North Dakota, USA, in 1916 and joined the 8th Canadian Field Regiment (S.P.) RCA in January 1941 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and served in the U.K., Central Mediterranean area and Continental Europe and was discharged in Winnipeg in January 1946. Albert received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Defence Medal, the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, and the France/Germany Star. He has been a member of Russell Branch #159 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 54 years. BELL, Alexander “Addie” WWI & WWII Alexander was born in Burnside, Manitoba, in 1897. He joined the 43rd Battalion Cameron Highlanders of Canada as a Corporal in WWI and was wounded at the Battle of Somme at Ancre Heights-Regina Trench and became a prominent athlete after his recovery. In WWII, he had the rank of Sergeant and Company Quartermaster with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders and did weapons and combat training at Portage and Camp Shilo. While enlisted, he coached the 194142 portage Terriers Junior Hockey Team to the Memorial Cup Championship. Addie has been inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame and the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame. He passed away in 1949 and was a member of the Portage la Prairie Branch #65 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BEELAERT, Gwendoline WWII Gwendoline was born in Wallington, Surrey, UK, in 1921. She enlisted in the ATS (British Army) in July 1942 and served in the United Kingdom. She was discharged in April 1954 and has been a member of Russell Branch #159 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 28 years.
