39 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca BAUCHE, John (Jean) Joseph WWII John was born on December 1, 1919, in Grande Clairiere and joined the Army as an anti-aircraft gunner serving in Dartmouth, NS, and St. John’s, Newfoundland (17 months). He passed away on October 22, 1987, at Redvers, SK. BEARD, Daniel D. KOREA Daniel was born in Wawanesa, Manitoba, in 1933. He joined the Blackwatch; PPCLI; RCCS during the Korean War. He was a member of the Osoyoos/Keremeos Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion for over 49 years. He passed away in 2008. BEATON, Herbert J. WWII Herbert was born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba, in 1915. He joined the 431 Squadron of the Air Force and served in England. Herbert and all the crew of Lancaster KB858 were lost on an attack on Chemnitz, Germany as the aircraft and crew failed to return on March 5, 1945, to Croft Air Base, North Yorkshire. Herbert’s mother donated the town clock in memory of him and the young men from the area. On February 20, 1995, Beaton Lake in northern Manitoba was named after F/O Beaton and the certificate hangs in the town office in Shoal Lake. BEARD, William A. WWII William was born in Wawanesa, Manitoba, in 1923. He joined the Army (Tanks) and served in France, Holland, Berlin, England and Germany. He was a member of the Boissevain Branch #10 of The Royal Canadian Legion. William passed away in 1989.
