35 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca BARTLEY, Earl G. WWII Earl was born in Carievale, SK, on July 21, 1926. He joined the Canadian Light Infantry and served in Canada. He has been a member of the Brandon Branch #3 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 63 years. BARTLEY, Leslie W. WWII Leslie was born in Killarney in 1981. He joined the Royal Canadian Army 3rd Division Service Corps serving in Canada, England, France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. He arrived in Normandy on D-Day. BASCHAK, Anthony F. WWII Anthony was born in Pine River, Manitoba, in 1921. He joined the 15th Field Regiment of the Royal Canadian Artillery 4th Armoured Division in Winnipeg in January 1941, and took his basic training in Winnipeg, Shilo and Debert, Nova Scotia. He embarked overseas in July 1942 on the SS Camoronia and docked at Glasgow, Scotland, and received additional training on 25-pounders around firing ranges in England and Wales. He sailed to France in July 1944, and took up gun position near Caen and advances to Falais and beyond. His regiment fought across the coastline through Belgium and Holland, and finally in April 1945, crossed the Rhine into Germany. Anthony returned to Canada in October after the war and received his honourable discharge in December. He has been a member of the Swan River Branch #39 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 31 years. BARRIE, James M. WWII & PEACETIME James was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1924. He joined the RCOC and RCEME, serving in England, Europe, and UN Forces in Egypt. He passed away in 2008 and was a member of the Fort Garry Branch #90 of the Royal Canadian Legion for 20 years.
