He joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corp, serving in Canada, England (British Isles), France, Holland and Germany. Wilfred has been a member of the Boissevain Branch #10 of The Royal Canadian Legion for the past 54 years. BARLOW, Ernest WWII Ernest, son of James and Mary Barlow, was born in Souris, Manitoba, in 1921. He enlisted in the Army in August 1941, and was posted overseas in the Fall of 1942. He served with the Royal Canadian Ordinance Corps in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was in Germany on V. E. Day, returned to Canada in January 1946, and was discharged in Winnipeg on February 7, 1946. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the France/Germany Star, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Clasp. He returned to his position with the Royal Bank. Ernie is retired and resides in Winnipeg. BARLOW, Nelson WWII Nelson, son of James and Mary Barlow, was born in Souris, Manitoba, in 1918. Following high school, he attended the University of Toronto to become a dentist. While at University, he was recruited into the Army. When he graduated with his D.D.S. Degree, he was commissioned as a Captain in the Dental Corps and posted to Camp Borden, Ontario. After his discharge, Nelson settled in Vancouver, BC, and opened his own dental practice. He passed away in 2006. BARLOW, Fred WWI Fred was born in Chesire, England, in 1888, and emigrated to Souris, Manitoba, in 1910 to work on farms. In December 1914, he volunteered for the Canadian Army. In March 1916, he was posted overseas to England with the 45th Manitoba Battalion Winnipeg Grenadiers. He was assigned to the 11th Reserve Battalion as an Instructor. In November 1917, he transferred to the 78th Battalion, 4th Canadian Division serving near Lens, France. He was killed in action in March 1918, and is buried at Aix-Noulette Cemetery.
