He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in England with RAF Bomber Command over Continental Europe. He was killed in action in Flensberg, Germany, in 1942. AUCOIN, Andre J. PEACETIME Andre was born in Montreal, Quebec, in 1946. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1964 to 1974 as Master Corporal in Canada. Andre is a member of the Kelwood Branch #50 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BACHNICK, Philip O. WWII Philip was born in Loverna, SK, in 1920. He enlisted in the Regina Rifles in 1940, and was wounded at D-Day on June 6, 1944, and hospitalized in England for six months, then sent home to Canada, spending another three months at Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg. Upon receiving his discharge in the Fall of 1945, he headed to northern Manitoba where he spent many years prospecting and trapping. He is now retired and living in a Seniors’ Complex in The Pas, Manitoba. He’s been a member of The Pas Branch #19 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 61 years. AUSTIN, Norman A. WWII Norman was born in Dand, Manitoba, on May 16, 1924. He joined the Seadorths of Canada, serving in Canada, the UK and Italy. Following his discharge in 1945, he returned to Hartney and worked in the oil industry as a tool push for several years then pursued a career in farming. He married an English girl from London, England, who followed him to Canada and raised a family of five children. He received the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the Defence Medal, the War Medal 1939-45, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Norm passed away in February 1982. He was a member of the Virden Branch #8 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
