He volunteered for service in the Royal Canadian Air Force and on December 8, 1941, he received a certificate as a qualified observer navigator at Rivers, Manitoba. In May 1942, he was flying Ansons and was stationed near Stowe, Wores, England. He flew Wellingtons and on July 29, 1942, he bailed out over Hamburg, Germany, and was taken POW until being released in April 1945. On his return to Canada, William married the sister of a POW friend who lived in England and they had three daughters. Flight Lieutenant Warren passed away on August 20, 1958. He had been a member of Portage La Prairie Branch #65 of The Royal Canadian Legion for several years. WATKINS, Melvin D. WWII Melvin was born in Oakbluff, Manitoba, in 1926. He joined the Army and served in Canada. He has been a member of Carman Branch #18 for eleven years and Fort Garry Branch #90 of The Royal Canadian Legion for thirty-three years. WATSON, Winnifred WWII Winnifred was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1923. She joined the Air Force and served in Canada and the USA. WATSON, William C. WWII William was born in Scotland in 1900 and joined the Navy. No further information is available.
