221 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca TAYLOR, Thomas T. S. WWII Thomas was born in Mather, Manitoba, on December 4, 1920. He attempted to enlist in the summer of 1940, but following his medical, he was told that he was not big enough. Tom returned home to “beef up” and returned to enlist in the Air Force on February 4, 1941, and was sent to Toronto to Manning Pool. From there, he was sent to Yarmouth, NS, for guard duty. Tom was sent to Quebec City to wait for posting to ITS school held in Victoriaville, PQ. At ITS school, he remustered to a wireless air gunner and was sent to Montreal for wireless school. He received his WAG wings in 1942 and was posted to the 7th BR Squadron in Prince Rupert, BC. Tom received his commission in 1943 as a Pilot Officer and finished his career in the Air Force as a Flying Officer. Tom has been a proud member of Cartwright Mather Legion Branch #86 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 65 years. THWAITES, John William WWI & WWII John was born in Silver Ridge, Manitoba, in 1905. He joined the Army and served during both World War One and World War Two. He was a member of Branch #151 of The Royal Canadian Legion for thirty years (1944-1974) and Elmwood Branch #9 for ten years (1975-1985). John passed away in 1986. TRINDER, Dennis P. WWII Dennis was born in Oxfordshire, England, in 1925. He enlisted in July 1943 with the Royal Air Force serving in England and the West Indies. He was discharged in March 1946, and passed away in 2001. Dennis had been a member of Russell Branch #159 of The Royal Canadian Legion for forty years. TOOTH, Stewart J. WWII & KOREA Stewart was born in Oakville, Manitoba, in 1925. He joined the Canadian Army in 1944, and took his training in Winnipeg and advanced training in Red Deer. He was posted to Royal Canadian Army Service Corp Royal Canadian Service Corps. When the war was over, he returned to Winnipeg and was discharged in late 1946. Stewart re-enlisted in 1949, and went through the same training and was assigned to the Royal Canadian Army Service Corp again, and went to Korea in 1951 as a member of the Service Corps and returned to Canada in 1955 to receive an honourable discharge.
