197 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca ROLLO, John WWII John was born in Fetterangus, Scotland, on March 18, 1919. He enlisted with the 12th Manitoba Dragoons Regiment and took his training in Canada and England. He took part in Continental Europe and met Elise Schuclt in Belgium and married after the war in 1945. John and Elise moved to Uno and had three daughters of which they were very proud. John had health problems and passed away on February 27, 2005, and was buried on March 4 with representation from the military with pipes at his graveside. He had been a member of Miniota Branch #66 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 44 years. ROPER, Leonard WWI Leonard was born in Hartney District, Manitoba, and joined the 196th Battalion (Western Universities) re-enforcement 1st CMR and served in England. He was gassed in 1918, and sent for treatment to Manchester, England-Epsom. ROUND, Ethel H. KOREA Ethel was born in Assiniboia, SK, in 1931. She joined the Airwomen-Aircraft Control Operators and served in Canada. No additional information is available. ROPER, S. T. WWI S. T. Roper was born in England. He joined the Hartney Platoon 222nd Battalion and transferred to the 1st Battalion then the 46th Battalion serving in Lens 1917, Lord Strathcona Horse Sanginton. He received shrapnel wounds in Lens in 1917, and was a POW at Sanginton on August 8, 1918, and spent two months in a German Hospital.
