He began his basic training as an aero engine mechanic in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1941and was later stationed at St. Thomas, Ontario, and later to Rivers, Manitoba, at their training base. Leslie requested to be posted overseas but remained at Rivers until receiving an honourable discharge on June 21, 1945, at which time he resumed farming at Windygates, Manitoba, on the family farm. He passed away in 2007. NIEMAR, Charles WWII Charles was born in Vibank, SK, in 1916 and passed away in 1980. He was a member of the Elmwood Branch #9 of The Royal Canadian Legion. No additional information is available. NORRIS, Lyle O. WWII Lyle was born in Morris, Manitoba, in 1924. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Service on September 9, 1943, in Winnipeg, MB, at age 19, as a private and was employed as a driver serving overseas in the UK for a period of time and was discharged on April 5, 1946. Lyle passed away in 2001, and was a member of Morris Branch #111 for 40 years. He received the Voluntary Medal, the Defence Medal and the War Medal. NORRIS, Claude W. WWII Norris was born in Morris, Manitoba, in 1911. He enlisted at Barriefield, Ontario, with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps in April 1943 and served overseas until 1946. Claude was one of eight brothers who joined the forces and all returned safely. Their parents, Freeman and Olive Norris, must have been very proud of their family. After the war, Claude and his wife, Doreen, had seven sons and lived in Morris, MB. He passed away in 2002, and was a member of Morris Branch #111 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 25 years.
