PEACETIME Daniel was born in Florence, Nova Scotia, in 1936, and joined the Army unit 7626241serving in Canada. MADOR, Shawn J. E. PEACETIME & AFGHANISTAN Shawn was born in North Bay, Ontario, in 1976. He joined the 2nd PPCLI, CFB Shilo, serving from August 2006 to February 2007 and attached to 1 RCR Battle Group Afghanistan during this time. He served his country with pride and distinction, including the loss of close friends in heat of 40 degrees Celsius and never knowing what the next day would bring. He is now posted to the Battle School in CFB Gagetown, teaching young officer recruits to be good soldiers and leaders of the next generation. Shawn is married to Deanna and they have three children: Jordyn, Brady and Cooper. His parents, Sgt. Perry Mador (retired) and Helen, live in Killarney and are members of Branch #25 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MAITLAND, George Kenneth WWII George was born in Souris, Manitoba, in 1925. He joined the Canadian Infantry Corps at Fort Osborne Barracks on April 20, 1944, and trained in Ontario and British Columbia, serving in Canada. He was discharged at Fort Osborne Barracks on April 25, 1946, and received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Ken passed away on May 21, 1990, and had been a member of Souris Branch #60 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 45 years. MAGNUSSON, Jens H. WWII Jens was born in Vesemaermaeyjium, Iceland, in 1912. He joined the 28th Canadian Armoured Core, BC, Regiment in June 1943, and served in Holland and Germany after taking his basic training at Camp Borden as a gunnery instructor and instructed for one-and-a-half year. He then took field training in England and went off to Europe and into Germany until the war ended. His tank took a bazooka hit on the road to Aldenberg. Jens is a member of the Selkirk Branch #42 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
