He enlisted in Winnipeg on May 18, 1915, with the 44th and 29th Infantry Battalions C.E.F. and served in France and Belgium. He was discharged on February 11, 1917, and received the Victory and Service Medals. George passed away in 1964 and was a member of the Russell Branch #159 of The Royal Canadian Legion. ALLISON, Josephine WWII Josephine was born in Toronto, Ontario, in 1922 and joined the WRENS and served in Canada, Newfoundland and overseas. ALMERS, William H. WWII William was born on January 5, 1922, at Morson, Ontario, and enlisted at Fort William, Ontario, in 1941 with the Winnipeg Grenadiers at age 18 and re-enlisted in October 1942 at 19 with the North Nova Highlanders (Field Medical) with basic training at Shilo, Manitoba, and served in the Aleutians Islands, Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. As a field medic, he was critically wounded in Holland and flown to the 25th Canadian General Hospital via Wales. He rejoined his unit at Neinmegan, Holland and finished his battle tour in Germany. William was discharged on January 31, 1946, at Fort Garry, Winnipeg, and worked on Lake of the Woods as a ship Captain for 48 years hauling freight and tourists. He’s been a member of the Major Hughes Branch #54 of The Royal Canadian Legion for over 18 years. William is now 88 years old. ALLISON, Mathew M. O. WWII Mathew was born in Scotland in 1918 and joined the Navy serving on the High Seas. He passed away in 1977.
