He joined the 27th Canadian Battalion as Lance Corporal on January 12, 1918, serving in England and France. He passed away in 2001 and had been a member of Pilot Mound Branch #62 of The Royal Canadian Legion for over 60 years. GILBERT, George J. B. KOREA George was born in Manitoba in 1931 and joined the 1st Division R.C.H.A. I-II-III, serving in Canada, Korea and Japan. He received the United Nations Voluntary Service Medal and the Korean Medal. George passed away in 1997 and was a member of the St. James Branch #4 and Selkirk Branch #42 of The Royal Canadian Legion. GODKIN, James H. WWI James was born in Pilot Mound, Manitoba, in 1892 and enlisted in the Army on March 2, 1917. No additional information is available. GLAWSON, John H. WWII John was born at Hartney, Manitoba, on May 26, 1923. He enlisted in the Canadian Artillery at Brandon, MB, on November 19, 1941, and served in Canada and overseas. After the war, he spent time in Camp Borden and England. Returning to Canada, he went to British Columbia to help fly a balloon barrage for a Bond Dive. He was discharged on January 19, 1946, and received his papers in February of that year. On July 26, 1947, he married Vera Clark. They had two children and built a home with help from the Veterans Land Act in 1955. John was the owner of Glawson Painting and Decorating Ltd. from 1959-1983 and held most offices, chaired most committees, and was President in 1964 of the Brandon Builder’s Exchange. In 1994, he received the Ben Wiebe Award from the Brando Builder’s Exchange for his contribution to his profession and community. John spent a few months in Deer Lodge Hospital in 1947 with a swollen knee. He had congestive heart failure and passed away of lung cancer in 2003. He was a member of Hartney Branch #26 and Brandon Branch #3 of The Royal Canadian Legion for over 40 years.
