LEST WE FORGET 255 MORTON, Wilfred Harold WWII Wilfred was born in Saskatchewan on August 10, 1922. He enlisted with the Armoured Tank Corps on December 1, 1943, serving in Canada, and was discharged on April 9, 1946. He was a very active member of The Royal Canadian Legion Silton Branch 33 for 48 years and received the Meritorious Award for all his dedicated work. He passed away on September 10, 2000. MOUNT, Herbert WWI Herbert was born in Simcoe County, Ontario, on June 20, 1893. He served with the Canadian Forestry Corps in England and returned to Saskatchewan after the war and raised horses at Lockwood. It was there that he met Annie Wilson, who had come from England with a group of women. Herb courted her with a motorcycle and a sidecar and were married in 1923. He farmed in the Connell Creek District until his death on March 18, 1951. Annie rented the land and joined the Legion Auxiliary in 1954. She sold the farm and moved to Arborfield in 1960. She passed away in 1963. MOTTA, Mike WWII Mike was born in 1918 on the homestead in Morwick District, Saskatchewan. He entered the Army at Regina on November 4, 1941 and in November of 1942 he was with the 1st Canadian Fusiliers as Rifleman 1st Class. In April 1943, he served with the US Forces in the Aleutian Islands, returned to Canada, and was shipped to England to join the Lake Superior Regiment and subsequently served in Germany and Holland. On VE Day he was in Amsterdam with the 4th Canadian Army Brigade and eventually shipped home to be discharged on January 1946 and returned to his job with the CNR. He retired in Wakaw, Saskatchewan, after 43 years of service with the company. Mike enjoyed curling, trapping, hunting and fishing, and family outings with his wife and two children. He was a member of Branch 195 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 38 years, serving as Secretary-Treasurer, as well as other offices, for seventeen years. Mike passed away in December 2004, at the age of 86.
