LEST WE FORGET 167 HONNEYMAN, Walter Holgate Gedney WWI Walter was born on July 22, 1885, in Beverley, Yorkshire, England, to John William Honneyman and Harriet Francess Holgate Gedney. He had six sisters and one brother.Walter immigrated to Canada in 1913 and worked as a printereditor in Arcola before buying the “Manor Advocate”. He enlisted on August 3, 1915 in Arcola and spent one-and-a-half months training with the 68th Battalion before arriving in England on October 5, 1915. He was sent to France on March 9, 1916 with the 3rd Pioneer Battalion and spent fifteen months there. Walter was injured with shrapnel to the chin and throat at the Battle of Ypres in June 1916. After hospitalization with injury, he struggled with a previous vision problem that was made worse with service. He was posted to the Canadian Labour Pool in a clerical position with the 48th Record’s List. Walter’s only brother, Edgar Honneyman, died in battle in France on October 9, 1916. Walter obtained permission to marry Rosamund Patricia Wilson on April 12, 1919 in Guildford, England. He was promoted to Corporal on May 17, 1919 and Walter and his bride returned to Ottawa where he had a position with the Canadian Military Statistical Department in Ottawa. He was discharged in Winnipeg on November 16, 1920 and Walter and his wife settled in Manor where he had a position with the Canadian Military Statistical Department in Ottawa. Walter and Rosamund had five children, two of them died as infants. Walter died on January 9, 1929 in Brandon. His youngest two children, twins John and Betty, were only four years old. Walter us buried at Manor Cemetery beside his infant son, Victor, and his daughter, Joyce, who died in a tragic car accident. Walter is remembered on the Manor and District Roll of Honour. HOWSE, John Edward WWII John was born in Avonlea, Saskatchewan, on July 5, 1923. He joined the 27th Armoured Regiment on March 27, 1942 and served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Upon return to civilian life, John worked for one year and married in 1946 and began farming in the Khedive area in 1947, where he lived until his death on July 11, 2006. He had been a member of the Pongman Branch 180 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 59 years.
