LEST WE FORGET 145 HAINSTOCK, Henry WWI Henry was born in Minto, Manitoba, on April 17, 1894, the oldest of six children born to David and Elizabeth. He went to school in Minto and joined the RCA 1st Depot Division. After the war, he worked at road construction, on farms and sawing wood. He married Eva McDairmid on March 15, 1927 in Melfort and they farmed at Leacross and then moved to the Jordan River District in March 1941 and raised a family of five: Janet, Frank, Vera, Gertrude and Mabel. They moved to Arborfield in 1960 and sold their farm in 1961. Henry passed away in 1964. Eva moved to Nipawin and passed away in 2001. HANEL, Joseph John WWII Joseph was born in Prelate, Saskatchewan, in 1917. He joined the Saskatoon Light Infantry and Winnipeg Grenadiers, serving in Canada and Hong Kong. He received the 1939-1945 Star, the Pacific Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He passed away in 1980 and was a member of Branch 263 of The Royal Canadian Legion. HANDYSIDE, Raymond Thomas WWII Raymond was born in Benito, Manitoba, in 1919. He joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps on April 9, 1942 in Regina and took his basic training at Dundurn, Saskatchewan, Sydney and Courtney, British Columbia, and arrived at Terrace, British Columbia, on October 9, 1942. In June 1943, he was sent to Wainwright, Alberta, and went overseas in December 1944, and was in England when the war was declared over and served in the Occupation Army in Holland, Belgium and Germany until April 1946, when he returned home to Regina and received his discharge and returned to the family farm and in July 1946, he married the local school teacher and together they raised three daughters. Raymond farmed for over 50 years until his heart disease forced his retirement. His membership in The Royal Canadian Legion spanned 47 years and included New Osgoode, Crooked River and Tisdale Branches. He passed away in 2006.
