LEST WE FORGET 85 BAX, Rene William WWII Rene was born in Luyksgestel, Noord Brabant, Netherlands on December 28, 1919 and enlisted with the VIII RECCE of the Army in 1941 and was discharged on December 20, 1945, after serving in France, Germany, Holland and England. He was a member of the Manor Legion 161 for over fifty years. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the 1939-1945 George VII IMP Medal, the Commemoration Medal (awarded to soldiers who fought for the liberation of the Netherlands). Rene passed away on December 24, 2007. BEATTIE, David Thomas Pattie WWII David was born on June 14, 1919, near Dinsmore, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in Saskatoon, SK. He was posted to the #403 Squadron in Essex working as an Armor Assistant. He also spent some time with the #402 Spitfire Squadron until it went to Africa. He was then posted at the Air Force Base in Wick, Scotland. His final posting was at RCAF Station Topcliffe in Yorkshire with the #1659 Conversion Squadron. He served in Canada and England until his discharge on March 5, 1945. He married Elsie Fish on August 26, 1944 in Tottington, Lancashire. After his discharge, they returned to his father’s farm and raised three girls until they retired. He retired and resided in Outlook, Saskatchewan. David passed away on January 1, 2011, at the Outlook Health Centre. BEARDEN, Sydney Rutledge WWI Sydney was born in Kenlis, Saskatchewan, in 1899. He joined the 249th Battalion, 28th Overseas and served in France, Belgium and Germany, and was wounded at Mons and received the Mons Medal in 1948. He served in the Army of Occupation and returned home in June 1919. Sydney passed away in 1948 and was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Abernethy Branch 26.
