LEST WE FORGET 349 VANDENAMEELE, Henry WWII Henry was born in Langenburg, Saskatchewan, in 1921. He joined the RCA on May 5, 1942 and served in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Continental Europe, and was discharged on December 7, 1945. Previous to 1942, he was in the NRMA service. He married Johanna after the war and they raised seven daughters and moved to Alberta to work. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, War Medal 1939-1945, 1939-1945 Star, and France and Germany Star. Henry passed away in Alberta on November 24, 1973. VENN, Leo WWII Leo was born in Laird, Ontario, and received his education at Lange and Leader, Saskatchewan, and went to barber school at Regina and also went to work at the gold mines at Timmins, Ontario. He married Louise Hueser at Timmons and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force with the service police section and took his training at Lachine, Quebec. Leo was stationed at Dafoe, St. Marguerite, Quebec, and Centralia, Ontario. After he was discharged, he operated a barber shop and pool room at Cutknife. In 1950, he purchased the barber shop and pool room at Arborfield and ran it until his passing, due to cancer, on September 8, 1970. Louise continued to run the business for another four-and-a-half years before selling it. They raised two children: Beverley and Robert. Louise passed away on August 10, 1987. VANDENAMEELE, Oscar WWII Oscar was born in Langenburg, Saskatchewan, on July 16, 1923. He joined the 1st Canadian Radar on May 28, 1942, serving in Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe, and was discharged on February 26, 1946. After the war, Oscar spent time in Belgium getting acquainted with relatives there. On his return in the late 1940s, he farmed near Langenburg District and worked for the CPR, oil rigs, potash mine, the RM, and did mechanical work and the rural telephone. He enjoyed cards, nature, hockey and ball. He had two daughters and two sons. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, and War Medal 1939-1945. Oscar passed away in Marchwell, Saskatchewan, on August 27, 1993.
