LEST WE FORGET 325 SORSDAHL, Charles Walter WWII Charles was born in Castlewood, South Dakota, USA, on November 16, 1902. He joined the Anti-Tank Regiment RCA as a gunner on November 12, 1942 and served in the United Kingdom, France and northwest Europe, and was discharged on February 15, 1946. He was wounded in action, leaving him with shrapnel in his legs and arms. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Charles had been a member of the Regina Branch 1 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 15 years before he passed away on September 9, 1961. STOCK, Rudolph WWI &WWII Rudolph was born in London, England, on March 4, 1893 and came to Canada in 1923. He farmed with his brother in the Bestville District of Saskatchewan, and joined the Canadian Expeditionary Forces in 1915 and returned to England as a Bren Gunner, serving there and in France and Europe. He was at Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele and Ypres. Near the end of World War I, he transferred to the Air Force and served as a navigator and gunner. He enlisted in 1939 and served as a training officer in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. He married Violet Robinson in 1918 in West Hendon, England, and returned to the Bestville District, where he farmed until his passing in 1974. Rudolph and Violet raised four children. SPRINGER, Erwin WWII Erwin joined the RCE and was discharged in February 1945 for medical reasons. He was hired by the National Grain Company at Keatley and transferred as elevator manager at Arborfield in August 1946. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion Arborfield Branch in 1950 and was a dedicated member. His wife, Gladys, later joined the Legion auxiliary. In 1968, Erwin, Gladys and their two children, Lettia and Murray, moved and he transferred his Legion membership to North Battleford Branch 70 on January 27, 1970. Erwin retired in 1981 after 36 years in the grain business. They moved to Prince Albert. Erwin is now deceased.
