LEST WE FORGET 319 SKOCZYLAS, Joe WWII Joe was born on March 19, 1923, in North Portal, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed at Goose Bay, Labrador. He passed away in November 1982. SLABICK, Edward Arthur WWII Edward was born in Summerberry, Saskatchewan, on April 1, 1922. He started working for the CPR in 1941 and joined the Army #2 Port Company in March 1943 in Estevan, Saskatchewan, and trained in Regina, Maple Creek, Suffield, Alberta, Camp Shilo, Manitoba, Camp Borden, Ontario and Debert, Nova Scotia, and then the government formed a #2 Port Company to work on ships in Saint John, New Brunswick, New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, and Goose Bay, Labrador, loading guns, tanks, ammunition and food for overseas. On May 26, 1946, Edward received his discharge and came back to Estevan to resume his job with CPR until his retirement on February 7, 1983, after working for 42 years. He had been a member of the Estevan Branch 60 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 51 years before he passed away on September 1, 2000. SKOCZYLAS, Nicholas WWII Nicholas was born in North Portal, Saskatchewan, on May 5, 1925. He joined the Canadian Army on June 15, 1944, at age 19, and served with the South Saskatchewan Regiment and was stationed in Canada, the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, Holland, France and Germany. He was discharged on April 3, 1946. Nicholas passed away on December 29, 1967.
