LEST WE FORGET 303 RUSSELL, Charlie A. WWI Charlie came with his family to the Waterfield area, Saskatchewan, in 1913 from Staffordshire, England. He worked in the summer at Indian Head to get experience with horses, trees, haymaking and stooking. They had three homesteads. A house was built on their father’s homestead. In December 1915, he joined the Army and spent three years overseas. He married a Welsh girl and returned to his homestead where they raised five children. Charlie sold out in the 1930s and moved to British Columbia. SAMWAY, Harold Henry WWI &WWII Harold was born in Deloraine, Manitoba. He joined the Air Force as a cadet for pilot in 1918, and as a private in 1942 serving in Canada. After his discharge in 1946, Harold, Sylvia and Maybelle moved to Welwyn, where he taught school until his retirement in 1972. He was zone commander and district commander of the Welwyn Branch 112 of The Royal Canadian Legion. In September 1982, he moved to St. Albert, Alberta, to live with his daughter until his passing. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. RUSSELL, Ernie A. WWI Ernie came with his family from Staffordshire, England, in 1913 to the Waterfield area, Saskatchewan, and took up three quarters. A house was built on their father’s homestead and Ernie worked at Indian Head, Saskatchewan, to get experience with trees, horses, haymaking and stooking. He joined the Army in 1915 and was overseas for three years and returned home to work on his homestead, which he sold and returned to England and married Heather, a Red Cross nurse, and they raised one son. Ernie passed away in England in February 1984.
