LEST WE FORGET 255 METCALF, Ray Clifford WWI Ray Clifford Metcalf was born in Wilmot, North Dakota on January 1, 1887. He moved to Canada in 1906 with his parents (Homer Alexander and Sarah) and his siblings to Macrorie district. Unlike his brother Donald who farmed, Ray taught school in rural Saskatchewan in Fort Pitt and Goodwill. His papers indicate he was a 21-year-old student when he enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps on May 17, 1918. Ray received his discharge on May 10, 1918. The 1921 Census shows that Ray was single and still living at Macrorie. However, he had moved to the USA by 1935 and was living in Ardmore, Delaware, Pennsylvania. He married Florence Jessica Cherry (1907-2002), and they had a son Paul Nolan Metcalf. In the USA, Ray studied to become a tree surgeon. He died at the age of 97 on May 15, 1994, in Ravenna, Portage County, Ohio. He is buried in the Standing Rock Cemetery. MILNE, Ernest WWII Ernest joined the Canadian Army serving with the 11th AA Battery and RCA CAPO #2 and served overseas. He passed away in 1998 and is buried in the North Portal, Saskatchewan, cemetery. MILLER, Walter BOERWAR Walter was a Boer War Veteran and was a Lance Corporal of the Bethune’s Mounted Infantry Regiment. He was awarded the Victoria Medal and five bars, one for each province he served.
