LEST WE FORGET 173 FRAZER, John Robert “Jack” WWII John was born in Walpole, Saskatchewan, on September 1, 1922. He enlisted in the #12 District Depot of the Active Canadian Army at Regina on July 4, 1942 and served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and was discharged on January 8, 1946 with the rank of Gunner. In March 1946, John became a member of the Welwyn Branch 112 of The Royal Canadian Legion. He married Dawna Tilley on July 21, 1951, and they moved to Calgary and became members of The Royal Canadian Legion Chapelhow Branch 284 and raised one son and one daughter. Jack passed away on May 29, 2008. FROST, Sydney J. “Syd” WWI Syd was born on February 17, 1881, to William and Sarah Ann (Balls) Frost in Luton, Bedfordshire, England. He worked as a plumber and sanitary engineer and had belonged to the 3rd Bedford Volunteers in England. He married Florence Edith Wilson on July 3, 1899, and had one son, Osmond, and a daughter, Ruby. After the death of his wife, Syd left his daughter with his parents as guardians and he and his brother, Horace, came to Canada to find work. He worked as a paperhanger and painter in Rocanville, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the 217th in Moosomin on February 29, 1916. He sailed from Halifax aboard the Olympic on June 2, 1917, and served with the 19th and 15th Reserves. Being in his late thirties, Syd suffered from myalgia while overseas. He had a scarlet fever and rheumatic fever as a young man, so was afflicted with attacks of lumbago as well as poor vision. He was overseas for almost three years but was not sent to France. Syd was awarded a Good Conduct Badge and was allowed to wear two blue chevrons. He was discharged on December 28, 1918. Sydney was one of the fifteen charter members forming Rocanville’s Branch 20 of the Great War Veterans Association. Following the war, he married Palma Dahl, who had one daughter. Syd participated in plays and musical entertainments staged in Rocanville. He and his second wife had two more daughters, Pearl and Lillian. He passed away on May 12, 1950, in British Columbia.
