LEST WE FORGET 169 FLINT, William “Bill” WWII Bill was born in Speers, Saskatchewan on September 26, 1921. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1942 as an aero engine mechanic serving in Yorton, Rivers, and Gimli in Canada. He was discharged in 1946 and retired to farming in Speers, Saskatchewan. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Bill passed away on February 20, 2007. FORD, Harvey Thomas WWII Harvey was born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, in 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Saskatoon in August 1942 and enrolled in the technical training school for a course in aero mechanic engineering. In 1943, he went to St. Thomas, Ontario, for further training and left for England in June 1944, at which time he joined the 418th Edmonton Squadron and worked on Lancaster Bombers and Mosquito airplane motors. In September 1945, he returned to Canada and was discharged in Regina. Harvey was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Kinistino Branch 129 of The Royal Canadian Legion before he passed away in 2006. FORD, David WWI David was born on November 1, 1892, in Markinch in the Fife region of eastern Scotland to William and Anne Pollock (Dickie) Ford. He was a farmer in Welwyn, Saskatchewan when he enlisted in the Army on December 14, 1915, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He left Canada on May 20, 1916, with the 78th Overseas Battalion CEF aboard the Empress of Britain. He went to France on August 13, 1916, and was promoted to Lance Corporal on December 23, 1916. He was wounded on April 10, 1917, with a severe gunshot wound to the left hand and was hospitalized in France and England. On July 2, 1918, his request to marry was approved. On October 24, 1918, he was awarded a Good Conduct Badge. After being in service for forty months, David was discharged on August 13, 1919, and he returned to Welwyn with his wife Annie (Hay) Ford. On the 1921 Rocanville census, David, his wife, and their one-year-old son William were all living in the district. David was the first president of the Welwyn Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion in 1927. Lance Corporal Ford also served in World War II enlisting on September 18, 1940, in Winnipeg and was discharged on August 21, 1947. David died on November 30, 1960, in Winnipeg.
