LEST WE FORGET 141 CURRY (JARDINE), Doreen L. WWII Doreen was born in Sheho, Saskatchewan where she attended elementary and completed High School. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division in November 1942 served until her discharge in July 1946. She was employed in Administration at No. 3 F.I.S. Arnprior, No. 1 C.N.S. Rivers, and No. 7 Manning Depot Rockcliffe. She attended McGill University from 1946 to 1950. In 1950, she began to work at Atomic Energy Chalk River Nuclear Labs. Doreen got married in 1952 and they raised five children. DALGLEISH, Simon WWI Simon was born on September 11, 1895, in Wapella, Saskatchewan to William and Isabella (Miller) Dalgleish. His parents homesteaded west of Wapella and he had two older brothers and three sisters. His parents moved to the west coast before 1915. Simon enlisted in Vancouver on May 10, 1915. He was small in stature at 5 feet, two inches and 114 pounds. He was assigned a three-year term as clerk for the Canadian Ordnance Corps in Esquimalt, BC and he served there from 1915 to 1924 (almost nine years). He received two Good Conduct Badges and was promoted to Corporal on June 22, 1918. Simon had mastoid surgery and he suffered with ear problems. Simon Dalgleish passed away on June 15, 1952, in Oak Bay, BC. CURTS (YOUNG), Florence Elsie WWII Florence was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in 1923. She enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in Regina and served as a clerk typist in Kitchener, Ontario and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Corporal Curts was also on Sable Island off the coast of Nova Scotia where they watched for German U-Boats. Florence received the 1939-1945 George VI Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Upon her retirement from the Army, she married Alvin Curts and is the mother of four children. She was a member of Paddockwood Legion Branch 31 Legion Auxiliary, receiving her 50-year medal then joined the Branch which she served for 15 years. Alvin passed away and Florence retired and lived in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. She passed away on October 11, 2016.
