LEST WE FORGET 125 CHOVIN, James Wilson “Jim” WWII Jim was born in Asquith, Saskatchewan in 1924. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1943 and took his basic training in Saskatchewan. He received further training with the Canadian Parachute Corps in Shilo, Manitoba, and was shipped overseas in the fall of 1943. Jim eventually joined the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, and served as Sharpshooter on the first wave landing of the D-Day Invasion on Juno Beach. He fought the battle for Carpiquet Airfield, and was wounded on the outskirts of Caen. Jim was removed for the duration of the war and spent a year convalescing at Ballingstone Military Hospital in England. He often joked about returning to Canada escorting a ship full of war brides. He further recuperated at Portage la Prairie. Jim was discharged in 1946 at the age of 21, and was plagued by flashbacks until his death at 84 years old in 2008. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatoon Branch 63 for over fifty years. His medals include the France and Germany Star, 1939-1945 Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, Defence Medal and King George VI 1939-1945 Medal. CLARK, Thomas Irving WWII Thomas was born in Kelliher, Saskatchewan on November 30, 1918 and joined the Air Force as an aircraft electrician serving in Lethbridge, Alberta. Upon his discharge in 1945, Tom returned to Winnipeg and worked for Winnipeg Hydro until his retirement in 1984. He passed away on March 31, 1991. CLARK, Norman Leslie WWII Norman was born in 1925 in Kirkwall, Scotland. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served on the minesweeper HMCS Nipigon in Canada and on the high seas, crossing into international waters. Norman was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatoon Branch 63 for 57 years before he passed away in 2012.
