LEST WE FORGET 101 BOYES, William John WWII William was born in Gibraltar, Ontario, on March 10, 1907. He joined the Regina Rifles in 1939 and served in Canada until his discharge in 1944. Bill was a cook in the Army, stationed in Regina. He opened a Café called Uweeda Lunch and also cooked at Lakeside Home. William passed away in 1976. BRADSHAW, Bill PEACETIME & RCMP Bill joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and served from 1951 to 1955. He then enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in the Military Police from 1956 to 1972 after which he held the appointment of Sheriff in Courtenay, British Columbia from 1973 to 1988. Bill was a member of Courtenay Legion Branch 17 for over forty years. At one time, his parents were partners in the Chrysler dealership in Nipawin. BOZEK, George Thomas RCMP George was born on August 1, 1936, in Broadview, SK. After high school graduation in 1954, he enlisted in the RCMP on September 22, 1955, and commenced depot training in Regina. His first posting was to Harbour Breton, NL. He recalls many trips via RCMP coastal boats, visiting Newfoundland’s colourful outports. George eagerly wanted to marry his childhood sweetheart, Arlene Green, but regulations at the time forbade marriage so early in his career. George’s workaround solution was to resign in January 1957, marry Arlene, and rejoin the Force in November 1958. Their first married posting was Portage-la-Prairie, Manitoba. In November 1963, he was posted to Depot Division in Regina where he taught drill, firearm handling, marksmanship, physical training, and self-defence, earning a brown belt in Ju-Jitsu. In July 1970, they were posted to Unity, SK where George, now sergeant, served ten years as Detachment Commander. He retired in January 1980 but couldn’t sit still. In 1986, he was reinstated as a Special Constable working in North Battleford as a “Court Man”. Retiring again, he worked as a court mediator in Provincial Court until 2000. George’s loyal wife Arlene was awarded the RCMP’s coveted “Unpaid Second Man” award in 2014, one of only 460 spouses to be honoured. In RCMP jargon, the “second man” is the Detachment Commander’s 24-7 backup for duty calls.
