LEST WE FORGET 87 BUTLER, Thomas Edward “Tom” WWII Tom was born in Chellwood, Saskatchewan in 1917. He enlisted in the Army in World War II and served with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. After returning to Canada, he moved to Grimshaw, Alberta in 1950. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 253 in Grimshaw for 22 years and was a Past President. Tom was always active in the community before he passed away in 1972. Tom’s brothers James, George, and Percy also served in the Armed Forces during World War II. CARLSTAD, Alvin George WWII Alvin was born on September 27, 1919 in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in World War II with the Canadian Army and received training in Camrose, Alberta and Brandon, Manitoba. He served with The Royal Westminster Regiment overseas in the United Kingdom, the Central Mediterranean, and Continental Europe. He was discharged on February 27, 1946 and received the War Medal 1939-1945, the Defence Medal, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion Sexsmith Branch in 1946 and was a Life Member of Hythe Branch 93 of The Royal Canadian Legion. Alvin passed away in 1989. CARLSON, Walter Emmanuel WWII Walter was born in Watrous, Saskatchewan in 1912. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on May 9, 1941 and received basic training in Regina. He was sent to Chatham, Ontario on May 21, 1941 and then on to London, Hamilton and Windsor, Ontario.Walter served overseas in England from August 24, 1942 until 1944 when he went to France, Holland, Germany, and Belgium. He was discharged on October 17, 1945. He received the basic five medals for his service. Walter passed away in 1994.
