LEST WE FORGET 75 BOLTON, Melvin Clayton WWII Melvin was born in Kelliher, Saskatchewan on October 28, 1925. He joined the Royal Regina Rifles, ‘C’ Company, 3rd Division on July 26, 1944 and was discharged on September 28, 1946. He said that he walked across France, Belgium and Holland. After the war, he was stationed in Germany to guard prisoners. After he was discharged, he came home to work in his father’s garage. Mel married Lorna Vestby on November 22, 1950 and they had five children, sixteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Melvin started mixed farming in 1952 and started a small lumberyard on the farm. On January 28, 2001, after giving a sermon as lay minister about salvation, he had a fatal heart attack at the age of 75. Melvin received the France and Germany Star, the Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. BOWN, Edward Arthur Quinton WWII Edward was born in McTaggart, Saskatchewan in 1915. He served with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in Europe during World War II and with the Edmonton Reserves in peacetime. He was a member of the Mess in Currie Barracks and Edmonton for more than sixty years. Edward passed away in 1984. Edward’s brothers John and Allan also served in the Armed Forces during World War II. BOOKER, Donald Elroy WWII Donald was born in Hanley, Saskatchewan in 1923. He joined the Army and served in Canada, England and France with the 8th RECCE Regiment, 14th Canadian Lighthorse. He was wounded in the attack for the Falaise Gap and had his right leg amputated. He returned to England for treatment and therapy and then to Toronto, Ontario in November 1944 for further therapy. Donald passed away in 2002.
