LEST WE FORGET 387 YESKE, Ewald WWII Ewald was born in Langenburg, Saskatchewan, on March 24, 1919. He joined the Royal Canadian Infantry, Winnipeg Light Infantry on June 10, 1942, stationed in British Columbia. He volunteered for the 1st Canadian Paratroop Battalion to be trained at Fort Benning, Georgia, but did not pass the required medical examinations in Montreal. He returned to the Infantry and served with the Armed Forces until his medical discharge on December 16, 1944. He married Eleanor in 1945, and they raised two children. He continued farming, until they retired in 1979 and moved to Langenburg. He was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion. He enjoyed playing the guitar and was an avid supporter of hockey. Ewald was a gentle and compassionate man, and he passed away on November 25, 2001. YONT, William H. WWII William was born in Marchwell, Saskatchewan, on November 6, 1913. He enlisted with the Canadian Army Service Corps on February 23, 1944, and served as a tractor operator and garage mechanic for one year in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Continental Europe. He also served occupational duty after the war until his discharge on August 8, 1946. He married Eileen and they raised four children. After his discharge, he drove a petroleum truck for 27 years. When he retired, he drove a school bus until his death on January 30, 1974, in Marchwell, SK. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the France and Germany Star, and the War Medal 1939-1945. YESKE, Woodrow R. WWII Woodrow was born in Langenburg, Saskatchewan, on May 5, 1926. He took his WETP in Winnipeg and TS in Regina, training as an air gunner. After completion of training with course #95, the last to graduate from # 3 B&G at MacDonald, he received his AG Brevet and was honourably released on March 7, 1945, and transferred to Reserve General Section Class “E”. After the war, he worked with his father and brother in Langenburg until October 1946, when he obtained employment at a lumber mill in Port Alberni, BC. He married Caroline in 1948, and they raised five children. In 1962, he became a Registered Psychiatric Nurse in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. He retired in 1984. Besides being a Life Member of The Legion, he was also a Life Member of the Ex-Air Gunners Association of Canada Inc. Woodrow passed away on December 13, 1988.
