LEST WE FORGET 359 WANAMAKER, Doreen M. WWII Doreen was born in 1924 in Regina, Saskatchewan but grew up on the family homestead near Nipawin, Saskatchewan. After her five brothers volunteered for the war effort, she enlisted when she came of age, joining the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in 1943. She took her basic training in Vermillion, Alberta. Doreen was stationed in Maple Creek, Halifax and Regina toward the end of the war when she worked in a clerical unit on discharge papers. She volunteered to go overseas; however, the War ended before that could happen. Upon discharge in 1945, Doreen took a hairdressing course that was sponsored by the Army. She married Covert William Armsworthy in Regina in 1947 and they moved to Flin Flon in 1948 and Snow Lake in 1958. They raised four children. Doreen was an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion Snow Lake Branch 241 for seventeen years before she passed away in November 2004. WARD, Jack McLeod WWII Jack was born on January 6, 1923, in Hubbard, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the RCEME in 1942 and served in Italy, Belgium, and Holland until 1945. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatoon Branch for over twenty years. Jack passed away on October 8, 1969. WARD, Frederick Harold WWI &WWII Frederick was born on July 21, 1897, in Lemberg, Saskatchewan. He served in World War I with 68 Battalion from August 14, 1915 until June 1916. He then went overseas with 28 Battalion in June 1916 and served until 1919. He enlisted with the Army on January 24, 1940 and served in Canada until December 1945. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Lemberg Branch 69 for over fifty years. Frederick passed away on December 21, 1976.
