LEST WE FORGET 349 VALLEY, Frederick John WWII Frederick was born on December 5, 1913, in Sintaluta, Saskatchewan. His basic training with the Canadian Armed Forces took place at Camp Petawawa, ON; from there he was sent overseas to England. He met his “Lancaster Lass” Dora Hosker at a dance. They were married on April 22, 1943 in Lancaster, England. Their daughter Virginia was born on April 12, 1944 while Fred was away in service. In recognition of his service to his country, he was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Defence Medal, the Italy Star and the France and Germany Star. Fred passed away on September 27, 1971. VELIE, Stephen Harold “Steve” WWII Steve was born in Arcola, Saskatchewan on November 7, 1915. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on June 27, 1941 and took his basic training in Winnipeg before being posted to Hamilton and Barriefield in Ontario. After embarkation leave, he traveled overseas in the fall of 1942 as an armourer with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. A year later in 1943, Steve left with his unit for the conflict in Sicily and Italy, where he was wounded on December 22, 1943. He rejoined his unit in Italy to later campaign in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. Steve was honourably discharged in Winnipeg on December 14, 1945. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the War Medal 1939-1945, and the Defence Medal. Steve had been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Pine Falls Branch 64 before he died on July 11, 1997. VEILLEUX, Arthur Gustav WWII Arthur was born in Hudson Bay Junction, Saskatchewan on October 2, 1924. He enlisted at the age of seventeen in the Canadian Armed Forces on October 14, 1942 as a rifleman with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean and Continental Europe and was discharged on April 3, 1946. He later moved to Pine Falls, MB where he worked for the Abitibi Paper Mill. He received the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Art had been a member of The Royal Canadian Legon Pine Falls Branch 64 for 34 years when he passed away on February 17, 1984.
