LEST WE FORGET 309 SHAW, James C. “Jim” WWII Jim was born in 1915 in Gainsborough, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army in 1940 and served with the #1 Motor Ambulance Convoy, which was attached to the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps stationed in Winnipeg and Camp Shilo. Early in 1941, they left for England, where they were billeted for several years. After D-Day, the unit left for France. The #1 Motor Ambulance Convoy was among the first to land in the city of Catania, Sicily, but before leaving for Italy, they climbed and crawled up Mount Vesuvius. After Italy, Jim returned to England, where he joined the British Imperials at Aldershot and got his commission. He then served in France and Belgium until the end of the war. After France, his unit moved on to Nijmegen in Holland, where they remained until the end of October 1945. Jim returned home, got married, and raised a family on a dairy farm in Argyle, Manitoba. Jim belonged to The Royal Canadian Legion Brant-Argyle Branch 222 for 37 years until he passed away in 1995. SHILLING, Glenn Arthur WWII Glenn was born on January 12, 1907, in Knoxville, Iowa. He moved with his family to the Regina, Saskatchewan area in 1919 and in 1927 the family moved to the Birch Hills area to farm. He was called into the Canadian Army and served from June 1943 until February 1946 in Canada, England, France, Belgium and Germany. After the war he bought land in the Fisher District. In 1980, he sold his farm and bought a farm in the Winston District. Glenn passed away on February 1, 1992 and is buried in the Birch Hills Cemetery. SHEPPARD, Edward Glen WWII Edward was born in Saskatchewan in 1917. He served in the Army during World War II in Canada, France, and Germany as a Dispatcher External Gunner with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. Edward was awarded the France and Germany Star, the 1939-1945 Star, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 169 in Boyle, Alberta for four years. Edward passed away on May 27, 1987.
