LEST WE FORGET 305 SELTHUN, Leo Norman WWII Norman was born in Avonlea, Saskatchewan in 1918. He did a compressed “Home Guard” rigorous training course in Camrose but before he was called for Army service, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Edmonton in May 1941. He was posted to #3 Wireless School in Winnipeg and trained in Air Gunnery in Lethbridge. He then went to #32 Operational Training Squadron in Patricia Bay, BC before going to England. Norman was reported missing in action on April 9, 1943 over the North Sea. His body was found on April 18, 1943 off the coast of Norway. He is buried at Stavne Trondheim, Norway, in a section of the cemetery for British and Dominion airmen. SEMENIUK, John W. WWII John was born in Sheho, Saskatchewan in 1914. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1939 and took basic training in Toronto and St. Thomas, Ontario, graduating with honours as an aircraft mechanic. John served in Ucluelet and Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island and Sea Island and Boundary Bay on the Lower Mainland coast of BC. He later served at Number 10 Repair Depot and Number 3 Flying and Training Centre in Calgary. He was discharged on August 20, 1945 with the rank of Sergeant. John was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. John moved to Boyle, Alberta in October 1945 and opened a photo studio he later expanded to include insurance, real estate, and notary public services. He was Secretary-Treasurer for the Village of Boyle from 1954 until his retirement in 1979. John was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 169 in Boyle until he passed away on December 29, 2004. SELTHUN, Raymond Oliver “Ray” WWII Ray was born in Avonlea, Saskatchewan in 1914. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Edmonton in 1940 and entered the Emergency Training School. He was later transferred to S.F. Training School in Calgary. He served in Canada. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Ryley Branch 192. Ray passed away in May 1942.
