LEST WE FORGET 295 RUSTAN, Leonard “Len” WWII Leonard was born in Spalding, Saskatchewan in 1923. In 1943, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served overseas with 440 Squadron on Tactical Service in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during World War II. He was the leading Aircraftsman with Armour Crew of the 440 Squadron, 143 Wing. His duties included loading the guns, attaching bombs and rockets to the Typhoon planes. He was in active service overseas for three years. Leonard was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63 and passed away on October 29, 2016. SADLER, Lyman W. WWII Lyman was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan in 1918. He joined the Air Force and received the Burma Star after having served in the Far East. While serving there, he found a Japanese Flag with the inscription “Good Luck fighting son”. He lived in Swan River, Manitoba for a time and moved to Morris, MB in the early 1960s where he worked as a liquor store manager before leaving Morris in 1968. Lyman was one of the “pushers” to start the Morris Stampede. After he retired, he returned to Morris where he was an active member of Branch 111 of The Royal Canadian Legion. Lyman passed away in 2000. RUSTULKA, Mike KOREA Mike was born in Bienfait, Saskatchewan in 1932, joining the Navy in 1950 and training in Cornwallis, NS. During the Korean War, he served on HMCS Crusader and after the war, joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, earning the rank of Master Corporal in the Mobile Support Equipment Operator trade. Retired in 1978, he worked at Canadian Forces Base Southport, MB until 1992. He received numerous medals for his service in Korea, Egypt, Germany as well as the Canadian Decoration for long service. Mike died on February 27, 2010 in Portage la Prairie at age 77 and is survived by three daughters and four grandsons. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 65 for 48 years as well as the Korea Veteran’s Association of Canada.
