LEST WE FORGET 293 ROGERS, Edward Ernest WWI Born in Warwickshire, England on May 3, 1875, Edward Ernest Rogers was farming in the Conquest area when he enlisted in Moose Jaw on May 24, 1916, at the age of 41. He identified his next of kin as his brother Thomas who lived in Brigden, Ontario. He embarked for England on August 15, 1916 and began his wartime service in France on June 12, 1916. He was treated for trench fever as well as gunshot wounds to his right hand and shoulder. After recovery in the military hospital in Eastbourne, England he was sent back to France where he served mostly base duty. His conduct while in service was described as “very good.” Finally, he was declared “medically unfit” on May 17, 1918. In his discharge papers on November 8, 1918, Edward Ernest Rogers was identified as suffering from myocardial degeneration. His discharge papers indicated his plans to live in Toronto. He died on November 28, 1953. ROSS, William Junor WWI William was born in Montreal, Quebec on April 5, 1891, to Charles and Agnes Ross. He had one brother and one sister. He farmed in the Verna, Saskatchewan District and enlisted in the Army in 1916 in Regina. Private William Junior Ross, at the age of 27, died on September 3, 1918 at #53 General Hospital in Boulogne, France of wounds received during operations in the vicinity of Dury. He is buried at Terlincthun British Cemetery one mile north of Boulogne, France. ROMMANN, Fern Cecil WWI Fern was born in Dysart, Iowa, USA, on February 10, 1896. The family later immigrated to Canada with Fern being the eldest in a growing family of twelve. He farmed along with his parents. Fern joined the First Depot Battalion Saskatchewan Regiment on July 2, 1918 and was discharged due to demobilization on January 29, 1919. He returned to farming, later getting married and raising two children. Fern was a founding member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and was involved in community affairs. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Weyburn Branch 47 and a faithful member of the United Church. He continued his love of farming until his health declined, passing away on August 25, 1982.
