LEST WE FORGET 283 PRATT, John William Melville “Mel” WWII Mel was born in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1924. He enlisted in World War II with the Navy in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1941. He served aboard the minesweeper HMCS Gananoque, the freighter HMCS Valleyfield and HMCS Matane as Chief Petty Officer and Head Gunner. He saw service in Canada, the North Atlantic, and Europe. He also spent two years following World War II training sailors for the Korean War. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Naval Vets in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was a member and helped to build The Royal Canadian Legion Mirror Branch 189. Mel passed away in 1999. PRESTAY, Michael John Michael was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, on February 3, 1942. He served in the Canadian Army (Regular) from June 9, 1960, until his honourable release on August 6, 1966. He did two tours in Egypt for two and a half years and also served in the Middle East. Michael John Prestay received the United Nations Emergency Force Medal. He currently resides in West Vancouver, British Columbia. PREDIGER, Michael Alexander WWII Michael was born in Macklin, Saskatchewan on January 15, 1920. He enlisted in the Canadian Army at 12 A District Depot in Saskatoon, SK on December 18, 1941. He was sent to Saint John, NB to the Vocational School for a course in acetylene and electric welding in 1942. He served with 1 Br. R.C.E. 33rd Field Company in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe from 1943 until 1945. While serving he completed a course in arc welding in Croydon, England. He also served under NRMA (National Resources Mobilization Act Dominion-Provincial War Emergency Training Program) for four months. Michael was honourably discharged in Calgary on November 7, 1945. He received the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defense of Britain Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Ponoka Branch 66 for 43 years. Michael passed away in 1991.
