LEST WE FORGET 279 PIERCE, Douglas Llewellyn “Doug” WWII Doug was born in Indian Head, Saskatchewan in 1918. He enrolled in the nonpermanent active militia of Canada on October 9, 1940, was ranked as a Sergeant, and served with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Winnipeg Rifles as a Driver Mechanic, Group C. Doug married Catherine O’Brien on April 14, 1945 in Brighton, England and they moved back to Pipestone, Manitoba where they farmed for 18 years and raised three children. They moved to Brandon, Manitoba where he was employed by the government for Man-Power for nearly a year, then took a job as a Government Agriculture Products Inspector for Pool Packers until 1969 when he moved to Neepawa as Primary Products Inspector at the processors’ poultry plant. Doug was one of the key figures in promoting The South West Manitoba Feeder Sales in Pipestone and was its secretary treasurer until 1964. A member of Pipestone Legion Branch 230, Doug passed away at work in Neepawa on August 9, 1971, at the age of 53. POLLOCK, George Arthur WWI &WWII George was born in Whitewood, Saskatchewan, in 1896. He enlisted in World War I with the Canadian Army in 1914. He was wounded in France and discharged in 1919. He enlisted in World War II with the Canadian Army in 1941 and served in the Provo Corp in Canada, England, and France. He was discharged in 1945. He was a founding member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 93 in Hythe and also belonged to Branch 54 in Grande Prairie. George passed away in 1971. PLAWIUK, Eugene S. WWII Eugene was born on July 13, 1912, in Canora, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in World War II with the Canadian Army in Edmonton, Alberta in November 1941. He served with the CMSC in England, Belgium, France, Holland, and Germany. He was discharged in March 1946 and received the War Medal 1939-1945, the Defence Medal, the 1939-1945 Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, France and Germany Star, and Field Marshall Montgomery’s Chief of Staff Certificate for Devotion to Duty. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Norwood Branch 178 for 51 years, where he served on the executive for eleven years in various positions including President for two years. He was awarded the all Branch Officers Medal, Life Membership, Certificate of Merit, the Diamond Jubilee Commemorative Medal and Meritorious Service Medal and the 50-Year Membership Pin. Eugene passed away on December 13, 1997.
