LEST WE FORGET 277 PEDLAR, Frederick Gordon “Fred” WWII Fred was born in 1912 in Oxbow, Saskatchewan. He graduated as a Dentist from the University of Alberta in 1941. He enlisted in the Dental Corps and served overseas from 1941 to 1945 with the Royal Canadian Medical Corp, 15th Canadian Field Ambulance, 10th Infantry Brigade, and the 4th Armoured Division. This included serving with one regiment of field artillery, one anti-tank regiment, one light anti-aircraft regiment, and one infantry battalion, plus one medical unit with field ambulances. The Medical Unit was equipped to set up a Casualty Clearing Station in the field. Part of their job was to assist with triage, be stretcher-bearers, and evacuate casualties. He served in England, Normandy - D-Day, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Fred passed away in 1981. PHIN, Charles A. WWI Charles was born in Moosomin, Saskatchewan in 1893. He joined the Canadian Army and served in England and France during World War I. Charles was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Pilot Mound Branch 62 before he died in 1952. PFOH, John Anthony “Johnnie” WWII Johnnie was born on March 1, 1913, in Dilke, Saskatchewan and moved to Fernie, BC when he was ten years old. He signed up with the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada in Vancouver on June 24, 1940, later transferring to the Tank Division (RCEME). He served in Continental Europe and the United Kingdom. He made many friends in Antwerp, Belgium and particularly Enschede, Holland and continued to write to these families and their children long after the war years. After demobilization, he returned to Calgary on February 28, 1946. He received the War Medal 1939-1945, the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Services Medal and Clasp and most especially “Mentioned in Despatches”. His final rank was QMS WOII. Johnnie was a faithful member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 264 until his passing in 1979.
