LEST WE FORGET 245 MUMM (CAMPBELL), Doreen WWII Doreen was born in Canwood, Saskatchewan, on November 5, 1923. She joined the Armed Forces in 1943, and took training as a clerk/typist, and later worked as a nurse’s aid, which suited her better. She often talked about her disappointment that the war ended just as she received word that she was to be sent overseas. She met and married Ed Mumm in 1948, and they moved to Big River, SK, and eventually bought a farm south of Shellbrook, SK, where they raised five children. Later, they became one of the first farms in Canada to specialize in Leaf Cutter Bees. Ed was killed in a car accident in 1974, and Doreen continued with the farm until her death from cancer in 1982. MURCHISON, Donald Leslie WWI Donald Leslie Murchison was the middle child born to John and Margaret (McKay) Murchison on December 18, 1896 in Woodville, Ontario. In 1911, the family moved west to Conquest where the father built a hardware store which he operated for seventeen years. Donald assisted his father in the store until he joined the RCAF in 1917. Following the war, Donald worked for the Conquest Marshall Wells hardware store as a salesman. He married Marjorie Drummond in Conquest on August 8, 1923. He worked in the hardware store until 1946 when he and his wife moved to Salmon Arm, British Columbia. He died in Salmon Arm in May 1968, at the age of 71. He is buried in the Mount Ida Cemetery. MUNDELL, Roy Thomas WWII Roy was born in Plunkett, Saskatchewan in 1921. He joined the Army Service Corps in 1939. Roy had moved with his family to Pine Torch, SK and after the war was over he lived in White Fox, SK and operated a garage. Roy and his wife, Doris, moved to Calgary, Alberta. He passed away on May 30, 2004.
