LEST WE FORGET 231 McKERLIE, Daniel D. WWI Daniel was born in Stephenville, Manitoba in 1895. Prior to the war, Daniel was a farmer in Penzance, Saskatchewan. He was called up on November 23, 1917. He served with the Royal Canadian Engineers in Canada and with the CEF in Europe. He was awarded the war and victory medals for his service and was discharged on June 26, 1919. Shortly afterward he became a founding member of the Penzance Legion and donated an empty house that he owned to serve as the branch building. The branch is still in this same house in nearby Holdfast, Saskatchewan today. Daniel passed away in 1977. McLAREN, John R. WWII John was born in Heure, Saskatchewan in 1915. He enlisted in the Army with the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (RCHA). He served in the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and the Central Mediterranean during World War II. John passed away in 1987 and was an eight-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Brandon Branch 3. McKIE (BRADSHAW), Winnifred V. I. WWII Winnifred was born on January 13, 1926, in Reston, Manitoba. She enlisted with the CWAC in August 1944 in Regina, SK. She received her advanced training in Kitchener, ON. She graduated from Edmonton Vocational Training School in Clerks Accounting. She was stationed in Calgary, AB processing discharges during de-mobilization. She volunteered for the Pacific Theatre of War. She was discharged in August 1946. She was a volunteer in the American Navy as a Nursing Sister during the Korean Conflict, but was never called to duty. Winnifred passed away on January 28, 2000.
